ACCA FA FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions About the ACCA FA Course
What is the FA(F3) exam and who should take it?
FA (Financial Accounting) is a core paper at the ACCA Applied Knowledge level. It is designed for students who have begun the main ACCA qualification and want to build a solid foundation in financial accounting principles and the preparation of financial statements. FA is an essential stepping stone to FR (Financial Reporting) at the Applied Skills level.
Is ACCA FA the same as F3?
Yes. ACCA Financial Accounting (FA) was formerly known as F3. The current ACCA paper code is FA, so students should use “FA” when referring to the current exam and study materials.
Is ACCA FA difficult?
FA can be challenging for students who are new to financial accounting because it requires both conceptual understanding and accurate application of accounting techniques. Regular practice with objective tests and multi-task questions can help build speed, accuracy, and confidence.
Do I need to study the full ACCA FA syllabus?
Yes. ACCA advises students to study the entire syllabus because questions can assess different parts of it. Regular practice across different question styles is therefore important.
Do I need prior accounting knowledge to start FA?
No formal prior knowledge is required, but basic familiarity with bookkeeping is highly beneficial. FA is designed to take students from foundational concepts through to applied financial accounting. Students who have completed FA1 and FA2, or studied accounting at school, usually find the transition smoother, but beginners can also succeed with structured tuition and consistent practice.
How is FA(F3) different from FR?
FA and FFA share substantially the same syllabus and learning outcomes. FA is the Applied Knowledge level paper within the main ACCA qualification, while FFA sits within the Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) qualification. FR (Financial Reporting) at the Applied Skills level then advances the subject into detailed IFRS application, complex consolidations, and in-depth financial analysis.
What is the pass mark for ACCA FA?
The ACCA FA pass mark is 50%. Students need at least 50 marks out of 100 to pass the examination.
What support does Vertex FA(F3) preparation course provide?
Our course includes live interactive tutor support, updated-recorded lectures for flexible preparation, comprehensive IFRS-aligned study notes, customized study planner, weekly basis live sessions, financial statements and consolidations workshops, topic related quizzes, progress tests, detailed marking feedback, and a full mock exams with examiner-style debriefs.
