ACCA Foundation Diploma — FAQs
What is the ACCA Foundation Diploma?
The ACCA Foundation Diploma is part of ACCA's Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) suite — seven entry-level papers (FA1, MA1, FA2, MA2, FBT, FMA and FFA) designed for complete beginners. It provides a structured, recognised route into the ACCA Qualification.
Who is the Foundation Diploma for?
It's designed for complete beginners with no prior accounting knowledge, and especially for students who don't meet the standard ACCA entry requirements. It also forms the basis of the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification.
How many papers are there and in what order should I take them?
There are seven papers. ACCA recommends starting with FA1 and MA1, then FA2 and MA2, and finally FBT, FMA and FFA.
Do I get exemptions after completing the Foundation Diploma?
Yes. Once you complete all seven papers, ACCA automatically transfers you to the ACCA Qualification and grants exemption from the first three Applied Knowledge exams — BT, MA and FA — that you've already covered through FBT, FMA and FFA.
Do I need any prior accounting knowledge to start?
No. The Foundation Diploma is built for complete beginners and starts from first principles — no prior accounting knowledge or experience is required.
How do I register for the Foundation Diploma?
Start your application on the ACCA website and select "Foundations in Accountancy". You'll pay an initial registration fee and an annual subscription. Then enrol in your Vertex Foundation course or pack to begin studying.
