What is the BT(F1) exam and who should take it?
BT (Business and Technology) is the first paper at the ACCA Applied Knowledge level and is typically the starting point for students entering the main ACCA qualification. It is designed for school leavers, graduates, and career changers who want to build a strong foundation in how businesses operate, how technology supports organisational performance, and how professional ethics apply in practice.
Is BT the same as F1?
Yes. BT is the current paper code used for Business and Technology. F1 is the older code that students may still use when searching for the paper so you may see references to “F1” or “BT/F1” in older ACCA resources. For current ACCA study materials, BT is the preferred paper code.
Is ACCA BT difficult?
BT is broad rather than heavily calculation-based. The main challenge is understanding and remembering concepts across the full syllabus. Consistent study, complete syllabus coverage, and regular question practice can make the exam much more manageable.
How should I prepare for ACCA BT?
Start by covering the full syllabus rather than focusing only on selected topics. Build your understanding through lessons and study notes, then use objective tests and multi-task question practice to test how well you can apply what you've learned. Do I need prior business knowledge to start BT(F1)?
No prior business or accounting knowledge is required. BT is specifically designed as an entry-level paper for beginners. The syllabus introduces fundamental business, management, and technology concepts in a structured way, making it ideal for school leavers, career changers, and students without any professional or academic background in business.
How is BT different from FBT?
BT and FBT share substantially the same syllabus and learning outcomes. BT is the Applied Knowledge level paper within the main ACCA qualification, while FBT sits within the Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) qualification. Students who pass FBT receive full exemption from BT, allowing seamless progression into the Applied Skills level of the ACCA qualification.
What comes after ACCA BT?
BT is one of the three Applied Knowledge papers, alongside Management Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting (FA). After completing Applied Knowledge, students progress to the Applied Skills level of the ACCA Qualification.
